Penta prisms are capable of deflecting an incident beam by 90° without inverting or reversing it, regardless of any rotation around an axis parallel to the intersection line between its two reflecting faces. It finds wide applications in Plumb Level, Surveying, Alignment, Range finding and Optical Tooling. To ensure optimal performance, the reflecting surfaces of this Prism must be coated with a metallic or dielectric coating. Typically, aluminum or enhanced aluminum coatings are applied on the standard Penta Prism reflecting surfaces.
