Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) are excellent for various IR applications due to their impressively broad transmission wavelength range from 600 nm to 16000 nm and low absorption for IR light. ZnSe also exhibits high thermal shock resistance and low chromatic dispersion making ZnSe windows ideal for high-power CO2 lasers and thermal imaging cameras. Additionally, the material is relatively soft and sensitive, thus not recommended for applications in extreme environments. Extra cautions need to be taken during cleaning, handling, and mounting.
